Current debates about the concept of religion

Abstract

This article raises the need to recover the debate on the concept of ‘religion’ to understand current issues such as secularization or religious violence. The tensión between the historical dimension of the religious fact and the need to find strictural elements that characterize it, can be faced considering both methodologies as an hermeneutical circle (Duch and Martín Velasco). The second debate, the postcolonial critique of the use of the concept os religión, can be faced by considering the concept of religion as an analogue concept (U. Bianchi). Both conclusions entail creating interdisciplinary research spaces to advance the study.
