Comparison of materials for pulp treatment in primary teeth: a literature review based on "recent evidence"

Abstract

This literature review analyzes studies from 2020 to 2025 on pulp therapy in primary teeth, including indirect, direct, pulpotomy and pulpectomy treatments. Fifty-two investigations comparing materials such as formocresol, calcium hydroxide, MTA, Biodentine, ferric sulfate, TheraCal LC, laser and hyaluronic acid were evaluated. MTA and Biodentine showed the highest success rates (90-100 % in pulpotomies; >95 % in indirect/direct treatments; 85-95 % in pulpectomies), outperforming other materials. Ferric sulfate and hyaluronic acid were effective without toxicity. The results support bioactive calcium silicate cements and highlight promising new alternatives in pediatric pulp therapy.
